TOWN OF MILTON
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING REGARDING TAX LEVY
November 19, 2008
Budget Hearing: A budget hearing was held pursuant to notice at the Milton Town Hall starting at 7:15 p.m.
Town Meeting: Chairperson Haeuser called the meeting to order at the Milton Town Hall at 7:15 p.m. with seven electors present for the initial portion of the meeting. Five additional electors were present for the second portion of the meeting.
The first issue of discussion was the tax levy. The proposed levy was $47,962.00, which is the amount allowed by the state and a 2.45% increase from last year. There was no discussion. Bob Plattetter moved. Janie Baures seconded the motion. Twelve yes votes, zero no votes, two abstentions. Motion passed.
The second issue of discussion was town officer compensation. The current salaries are as follows: clerk $6,000/year; treasurer $3,350/year; chair $3,000/year and supervisors $1,650.00. Discussion was had on the workload of the positions and hours required versus the pay received. Janie Baures made a motion to increase the clerk salary to $10,000.00 commencing after the April, 2009 election. Tricia Justin seconded the motion. Twelve yes votes, zero no votes, no abstentions. Motion passed.
Eugene Bagniewski, Jr. moved to raise the salary of the town treasurer to $4,000.00 commencing after the April, 2009 election. Kalene Engel seconded the motion. Twelve yes votes, zero no votes, no abstentions. Motion passed.
Eugene Bagniewski, Sr. moved to raise the salary of the town supervisor to $1,800.00. There were no seconds. The motion failed for lack of a second.
Bob Platteter moved to adjourn. Eugene Bagniewski, Jr. seconded the motion.
Meeting adjourned at 7:33 p.m.
